Little Black Dress Party Helps Women in Need

The eighth annual Little Black Dress Party, an evening dedicated to celebrating good health and raising funds for local women in need, will be held May 20 at the Sandestin Linkside Center. This year’s theme will be Havana, which means dinner, dancing and entertainment with a Cuban flair. Cocktail attire, little black dresses and dancing shoes are recommended.
Also featuring live and silent auctions, the Little Black Dress Party has been voted Best Local Event on the Emerald Coast.
Proceeds benefit the White-Wilson Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2012 to help improve health care in Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa Counties through service and education. A special focus is to increase access to health services for women in need, and so the Little Black Dress Party plays an important role in helping with that mission.
The event began in 2010 to raise awareness regarding the importance of preventive health care, specifically in regards to women's health, and since then, Little Black Dress Parties have raised a total of more than $400,000 for women’s health initiatives. According to the White-Wilson Community Foundation, there has been a drastic decline in preventive health care nationwide, and the foundation operates on the principle that the most effective way to offset diseases like breast cancer, heart disease and osteoporosis is through early detection.
